University of Westminster - Future Classrooms
Client: University of Westminster
Capital was appointed by the University of Westminster (UoW) to project manage the refurbishment of 42 classrooms as part of their five year future classrooms refurbishment programme. UoW is dedicated to ensuring the future growth of the University and upholding its reputation by providing students with modern and outstanding teaching facilities. The works were split over four campuses in central London (New Cavendish St, Little Titchfield St, Marylebone and Regents St), and a fifth campus located in Harrow.
Capital was appointed as the Employers Agent and Project Manager and was tasked with completing the works during the University's summer holiday. UoW initially contacted Capital as they were concerned about the volume of work to be carried out within a tight programme. Capital's experience in co-ordinating and programming ensured that the rooms were successfully completed to a high standard within the timescales.
Key project risks included design co-ordination between the project team, ordering of specialist materials and products from overseas markets, and programming.
- Co-ordination of Audio Visual package, including design and specification, and programme as a direct client order.
- Design co-ordination of Architect's and Electrical Engineer's drawings and specification, and managing the Quantity Surveyors' in order to formulate the Employers' Requirements.
- Managing the Sectional Completion process to ensure successful delivery of each room within the allocated timescales.
- Post contract services, including inspections and overseeing the handover process to ensure a quality finish, allowing for all rooms to be ready for teaching.
Thorough design co-ordination and strategic planning by introducing Sectional Completion helped to ensure that key quality and programming targets were met
