Exeter Road Retrofit Project - EWI / RHI

Client: Enfield Council Housing

Capital were commissioned to undertake the external wall insulation and associated works and a district heating project using ground source heat pump technology to four Tower Blocks in Exeter Road Enfield.

In line with Enfield Council’s commitment to Decent Homes, this project includes fabric repairs to 6 tower blocks, together with ECO funded works for External Wall Insulation (EWI) and it also includes replacement windows and curtain walling, brick and concrete repairs, roofing and canopy and entrance door replacements. The project also included a separate contract for replacement heating to all the flats, utilising a District Heating installation with decentralised Ground Source Heat Pumps. The scheme was funded through ECO and RHI payments.

Capital worked with the EWI providers design department and Rockwall on robust detail and EWI interface details. Capital addressed the Planning applications and Planning Conditions. Capital contract administered the project on site including valuations and payment certificates. For the District Heating element Capital put together the Employer's requirements using a bespoke amended JCT contract with 19 works sections and worked with the installer ICE Energy on delivery.

The Energy Efficiency measures introduced by the Government following the Energy Act 2013, included the Energy Company Obligations (ECO) Scheme and the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI). These measures together help homeowners reduce their energy bills, tackle fuel poverty and reduce Carbon emissions. The project was the winner of the 2016 Greater London Regional Energy Efficiency & Retrofit Awards - Large Scale Project of the Year, shortlisted in the National Awards. The aim of the Energy Efficiency & Retrofit Awards is to provide public recognition for the excellent work in Energy Efficiency and to help encourage best practice within the Energy Industry as it works to improve UK housing stock. The project also received a commendation in the 2016 Housing Excellence Awards in the 'sustainable housing scheme of the year' category.
