The London Borough of Tower Hamlets (LBTH) instructed Capital to design a modular temporary accommodation for 4No. extra classrooms for special need students, adjacent to Beatrice Tate School.
The temporary modular portacabins will be placed on the courtyard of a vacant site, owned by LBTH. The site area is along Southern Grove, London E3 4PX. To protect the roots of two mature trees, a Cellweb foundation system will be installed, to support the Jackpad foundations for the portacabins and canopies.
The proposal, 4 classrooms for 10 students each, will increase the number of students attending the school by 40.

The other proposal, still for LBTH, is for a permanent annex building to Harpley School, 21 Tollet Street, London E1 4EE. This is to cater for the anticipated growth in KS4 and Post 16 pupils. The development is very close to 3No. mature trees with TPO, and a special screw pile foundation system has been adopted.
Real brickwork cladding and an aluminium standing seam roof will complete the envelope.
The proposal, 6No. classrooms for 10 students each and 6No. “one to one” teaching rooms, will increase the number of children attending the school, by 32. Both school developments will meet the requirements of the “Building Bulletin 103: Area guidelines for mainstream schools” and will comply with the current Building Regulations.
