Harrow Library Campus – Refurbishment

  • Client: The University of Westminster
  • Services: Project Management
Capital were appointed as Project Managers to deliver a complex refurbishment of the entire Harrow Campus Library.
Contract Value:
£3.7m
Dates:
March 2016 – October 2016
Contracts:
JCT D&B
The Project was on site within two months from appointment and required a hands on approach to a number of logistical challenges prior to the construction works starting. The removal of over 5,000 books to temporary storage and the setting up of a click and collect service to maintain library function during the summer period had to be resolved before any works commenced.   Capital were integral in pulling together the various strands of the projects, dealing with end users, move teams, IT and Construction.

Once appointed Capital produced a detailed programme which included the decanting requirements and the setting up of temporary library facilities with the local teams.

Parallel to this process, Capital oversaw the detailed design and sign off gateways to ensure the scheme was tendered and reported on prior to a quarterly Finance & Planning committee meeting. Failure to achieve this date would set the project back a year.

Despite a number of changes being required by the client during the project we were able to provide a full hands on approach to the day to day management of the works which saw the project complete on time.

The project was undertaken on an incredibly short preconstruction programme, requiring hands on Project Management from the Capital Team.
