Kingsmead Academy School instructed Capital to provide solutions for additional science specialist accommodation and 6th Form accommodation, to address an increase and expanding 6th Form.
Kingsmead has been developed and expanded many times over the years and the current campus lacks clear planning and rationale. The decision reached at early design meetings with the school, was to avoid another ad-hoc addition. Instead a wider masterplan was agreed in an attempt to amalgamate further developments and to provide a cohesive solution to the campus.
The decision to provide this additional teaching accommodation above the existing Technology Block, by adding two new floors with a transfer structure was done after careful consideration. To have provided additional teaching elsewhere on the site, would have added to the disjointed, piecemeal development of the site, instead this proposal adds cohesion to the faculty groupings.
Specific new accommodation:
Three laboratories and 1 prep room (targeted for 6th Form use)
10 new teaching classrooms.
2No new office / group rooms.
6th Form ICT break out and library space.
