Capital Provided Project Management and Employer’s Agent services for two simultaneous school projects for Hertfordshire County Council which were delivered through the Scape framework by Kier. The two sites are in separate parts of Hertfordshire; Leavesden and Stevenage.
At Leavesden Green Primary School, the requirement was to provide a permanent 1 FE expansion provided through four new build classrooms and the refurbishment of two existing rooms. Capital provided design advice and with our architectural background and our architectural experience we were able to challenge the designers to ensure the scheme fulfils the school’s and the client’s requirements.
The scheme was initially envisaged as a stand-alone building, but this presented operational difficulties for the school as their classrooms associated with year groups would not all be adjacent to each other. The school’s existing main entrance is into the middle of a corridor and the project offered the opportunity to relocate the school office and reception to the front of the site.

The linking of the new areas to the existing school has resulted in a Building Regulations requirement for Consequential Improvements. A re-roofing project was already in Hertfordshire County Council’s maintenance programme and we have been able to incorporate this work into the Kier scheme and thereby not add cost to the project whilst also bringing the benefit of the re-roofing works forward. Capital was also able to provide the design and CA role to ensure that a Music Room was remodelled to a classroom so that it was ready for the start of the academic year.
