R+ Reading – EWA investigations

Capital was commissioned to conduct external wall investigations to aid our partner fire engineers on a prestigious commercial building in the heart of the city of Reading. The building was constructed of external facades including both rain screen cladding and cast stone panels.
In addition to being positioned on a red route close to the busy railway station, access to the rear of the building was severely limited and works needed to take place whilst the various companies with offices within the building were to maintain normal working for the duration of the works.
With the team’s experience in stone cladding and an acute understanding of their fixing methods; it was decided that the investigations for fire barriers on stone clad sections would best be undertaken by opening the walls internally. In addition to having the skilled trades to undertake these works, Capital have additional finishing trades who made good the internal finishes on completion.

Investigations to the rear aspects were undertaken using dual-power MEWP access to limit the noise for those working within the building. Our conscientious operatives are IPAF certified and managed to carefully position the MEWP within the tight confines to ensure the Fire Engineer was able to make accurate assessments of the various wall types and report conclusively to the client.
