Knebworth Primary and Nursery School being one of the ten schools included within the contract, had suffered with roof leaks for a number of years in all of the flat roof areas. There had been major health and safety concerns regarding the state of the tile fixings. This had a direct impact on teaching, as well as the school needing to encompass external areas where there was a high risk of loose tiles falling.
Capital arranged for intrusive investigations and core samples of the roof covering to identify the condition of the built up layers beneath the mineral felt surface. Additional testing to the pitched areas identified that the plain tiles were in fact adequately fixed, whilst the wet ridge system was failing.

Due to the nature of the build, the ridge tiles to be installed had to match those two-hole existing ornamentals. Capitals design incorporates adequate insulation meeting Building Regulations Approved Document L2B.
Capital presented their findings and proposals to HCC to carry out the replacement works, with a provisional installation programme with a completion date prior to the school return in September.
